From Gulf News:
Suddenly, the poorest and most war-ravaged nations of the world were awash with deadly weapons that prolonged their misery. For instance, take the AK-47, the world's most widely used assault rifle. While 14 countries produce the weapon legally, in some others its illegal production has almost become a cottage industry. It is said you can buy one for as little as $30 in Somalia. Or have one made for you for a similar price in parts of southern Afghanistan.

Hi Steve!
I returned from Romania earlier this week. I found a lot of interesting stuff on your blog. Keep up the good work!
If the republicans loos control of the congress it might happen that the US withdraws from Iraq. That would be great and we would have another wonderful anarchic civilazation.
If I were an american citizen I would probably vote for a candidate in favour of withdrawal from Iraq.
If I could not find such a candidate I would not vote at all.
Please comment these news:

I think you mean http://www.shabelle.net/news/ne1659.htm
I can think of 3 possible reasons for the ban on khat in Hiraan province:
- for religious reasons
- because the general public is in favor of the ban
- because the local court wants to monopolize trade in khat.
What do you think?
As for the US and Iraq, I think the US will have to pull out of Iraq regardless of what happens in the elections, and it won't matter much anyway because the contingent of troops there is too small to keep order outside of the small area where they are deployed.
How was Romania?
I will return to your questions, but I love Romania. The country is of course statist but i like it anyway. Something that could make free-market freaks happy is the fact that Romania is a flat-tax country with a tax rate of only 16%. The economy there is booming, but due to protectionism prices are high so the people do not benefit as much from the boom as they would under free trade. I went to Romania because a friend of mine is romanian and like me russian-orthodox old ritualist. There are a few russian orthodox old ritualist churches in Romania and most of all I enjoyed the prayer and the beuatiful rituals.
